Amrita

Amrita is the elixir of life, produced by the Churning of the Ocean of Milk, and over which the gods and demons fought.

Amrita is a Sanskrit word meaning  'immortality', or 'non-dead'.  It is etymologically related to the Greek ambrosia, and carries the same meaning.  It is often referred to as nectar.

The word first appeared in the Rig Veda, where it is considered one of several synonyms for soma, the drink of the devas.
