In my time making images of the Angkor temples, I have spent over 10,000 hours exploring the temples themselves, read countless books and research papers, and spent time with many local guides and international scholars.
My purpose here was to try to really understand the temples, to delve deeply into the history, archaeology, architecture, iconography, mythology and religious beliefs that make these ancient places so special. For me, I feel that a deeper understanding of the Angkor temples’ messages and meanings helps me to make better images; by fully appreciating their mysteries I am better able to reveal the spirit of these places in my work.
Angkorpedia is an ongoing attempt to share this meticulous research. My work here is not yet complete, I still visit the temples and add to my research every day, and many of these articles are yet to be fully developed. It may take me years yet to write down everything I have learned, and to describe and upload the hundreds of thousands of photographs and illustrations I have made.
Angkorpedia is intended to work alongside My Journal, where I discuss wider topics, delve deeper into specific areas of interest, and share more of my personal thoughts and experiences.
I hope that my sharing this here helps you to get more joy from these wonderful temples, and to share in my love for the Spirit of Angkor.
