Somasutra

A somasutra is a stone pipe or channel through which the lustral (purifying) waters used to wash the image inside the sanctuary are drained.

Somasutra project outside the temple, often terminating with a carved makara head at the spout.

Somasutra are indicative of a Shaivite temple.
