A gopura, or gopuram, is an entrance pavilion or gate, sometimes surmounted by a tower, in the wall that surrounds a temple.
Gopuras are often impressive structures with carvings on lintels and pediments. Many of the larger Angkor temples have a gopura in the centre of each side of their surrounding walls.
