Kala, or Kirtimukha, is a demon commanded to devour itself, a swallowing fierce monster face with huge fangs and gaping mouth.

Kala is very common in Angkorian iconography, sculpted over temple entrances as a guardian.

In China, the same creature is known as the taotie, meaning Monster of Greed.
