Hamsa is the sacred goose is the vahana (mount or vehicle) of both Brahma and Varuna in the Khmer tradition.
When the birds are shown supporting palaces with their wings (as at Sambor Prei Kuk) they symbolise the palace’s celestial nature.
Pushpaka, the celestial chariot drawn by hamsas, also symbolises this celestial nature.
In Buddhism, Hamsa represents the flight of the doctrine.
